Steps to becoming a CPR Instructor

  1. Be accepted by an HSI Training Center before enrolling in the Instructor Course and have a completed Instructor Candidate Application on file with that Training Center
  2. Have a current American Heart Association or HSI BLS Provider or Basic CPR and be proficient in all the skills
  3. Successfully complete being monitored teaching a BLS Course within six (6) months of completing the classroom Instructor Course
  4. BLS instructors must be at least 16 years of age
  5. HSI policy states, “Each student must have the current, appropriate textbook readily available before, during, and after the course.” The Instructor Manual is purchased with your instructor development package that is charged separately from the Mandatory Instructor Essential course. Please contact your training center for more details.
  6. After the student successfully completes the Instructor Course and exhibits their teaching abilities while being observed during a BLS Provider or Cpr Provider Renewal Course, instructor status is given, and an instructor card is issued. Within six (6) months of finishing the BLS Instructor Course, the monitoring must take place.
